Working Smarter: Simple Machines in Everyday Life

Presented By: Georgette Baker’s ESTEAM Lab

Saturday, 6/22, 4:30-6:30 PM

We live in a highly complex, automated society. However, at the core of even the most complex instrument or device is the simple machine.

In the June 22nd ESTEAM Laboratory, we  will look at why it is important to understand the role that simple machines play in every aspect of our daily lives: at school, at work, at play, in sports, etc. We will learn about the history and classification of the 10 most common machines as well as how a combination of simple machines relates to the expanding field of robotics.

We will finish up by building our own gadget to take home!

Registration preference will be given to students in grades 6-9. Once you sign up, you’ll receive a notification letting you know whether you’ve been registered or placed on the wait list within about 48 hours.

CANCELLATION POLICY
Our programs are always 100% free – but be advised that canceling your student’s registration within a week of the workshop incurs a $5 cancellation fee. Canceling within 24 hours of the workshop incurs a $10 cancellation fee. Not showing up without notifying us of cancellation in advance incurs a $20 cancellation fee. Because we never want money to be a barrier for students who wish to take advantage of our programs, we’ll cover the first $20 of cancellation fees you incur each calendar year. Cancellation fees prevent you from being able to sign up for workshops until they are paid.

VOLUNTEER
If you’re interested in sharing your knowledge and interests with young people – fill out a volunteer application to let us know! We’re always looking for new workshop facilitators with exciting ideas!
