Mind Bubble is excited to announce its upcoming workshop: “Bacteria: Friend or Foe?” This science workshop is intended for middle school students and, as always, is 100% free. The sign-up form can be found beneath the workshop description below. The workshop will be held at Edwin Jarvis in Avondale Estates (88 N. Avondale Road).
Bacteria: Friend or Foe?
Taught By: The Emory Biotech Club
Saturday, 3/24, 4:30 – 6:30 PM
Bacteria can be found in every plant, animal, and insect; in fact they can be found almost everywhere on Earth! You might think that all bacteria are bad (and it’s true that some bacteria make you sick), but in fact, there are a lot of bacteria that are good for us. Bacteria help us digest our food and can help supply our bodies with the nutrients we need. Without bacteria, we wouldn’t have cheese!
Scientists are able to change bacteria in ways that can help us make the world a better place. At our workshop, we will think like scientists and engineers to come up with ways to use bacteria to solve real world problems, like water filtration. Come become a scientist for a day with the Emory Biotechnology club and explore the world of bacteria!
Registration preference will be given to students in grades 6 through 8. Once you sign up, you’ll receive a notification letting you know whether you’ve been registered or placed on the wait list within about 48 hours.
Our programs are always 100% free – but be advised that canceling your student’s registration within a week of the workshop incurs a $5 cancellation fee. Canceling within 24 hours of the workshop incurs a $10 cancellation fee. Not showing up without notifying us of cancellation in advance incurs a $20 cancellation fee. Because we never want money to be a barrier for students who wish to take advantage of our programs, we’ll cover the first $20 of cancellation fees you incur each calendar year. Cancellation fees prevent you from being able to sign up for workshops until they are paid.
If you’re interested in sharing your knowledge and interests with young people – fill out a volunteer application to let us know! We’re always looking for new workshop facilitators with exciting ideas!
